FRANCHISE DEFINED:

Franchising is a business relationship that links a company that wants to distribute a product or a service with an entrepreneur who wants to run his or her own business. The franchisor is the company that sells the rights to distribute a product or use a business format. The franchisee is the businessperson who buys those rights. The company that owns the product or service grants a limited license to the person who wants to sell or distribute that product or service.

LewisStyle Franchising Company, LLC offers a business format franchise - the right of the franchisee to use a brand name and distribute a service plus the systems needed to operate the local business.

The Federal Trade Commision (FTC) specifies that three key elements must exist in order for there to be a franchise business relationship:

  • The franchisor must grant limited rights to use the company's trade name, service mark, logo, or other advertising symbol.
  • The franchisor must sell the rights to use systems or methods associated with operating the core business.
  • The franchisor receives a payment in return for granting the rights mentioned in items 1 and 2.
